In 1834, Thomas Hotchkin the then Lord of the Manor, erected the Spa Baths, as well as building the Victoria Hotel in 1839.

Visitors flocked to the healing waters and the pretty village welcomed train loads of new guests.

Now famous for its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and with many fine hotels and guest houses it is the perfect location for a short break or holiday. Set amidst magnificent pine woods on the Southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, 6 miles from Horncastle and 15 miles from the historic city of Lincoln with its Cathedral and Castle.

The village has a variety of attractions including two top class golf courses, the unique 'Kinema in the Woods', Cottage Museum, Jubilee Park and several aviation heritage sites associated with 617 Squadron “The Dambusters” close by as well as a wide range of bars and restaurants.
